Languishing in Literature

Course content*****
I returned to study in September 2007. Although not a complete beginner (I have been a "creative writer" for the past 5 years), I was apprehensive and worried that I would be able to cope with the extra workload. My fears were unfounded, the course is excellent, we have been studying a wide range of modern literature, from Scott F Fitzgeralds Great Gatsby, to Nabokov and Joyce to name but a few. The tutor is a Doctor of English and is so inspiring. He sticks to the curriculum each week, however, we are taken on journey where we discuss various aspects of the novel and he has also introduced us to writers none of us would have explored. The course is challenging and rewarding, and the 2 years duration is the equivalent of the 1st year of the BA English degree, therefore, you do have the opportunity to pursue a degree. I am already consdering this!
Student facilities*****
Magee University is in an old established building. The facilities/classroom is satisfactory. the library and IT resource centre are both excellent.
Social life*****
We are a class of 6, 2 men and 4 women of variosu ages. Everyone has an excellent raport with each other and with the tutor. We have swapped contact details and contact each other outside of class. I buzz for hours after my class, I can't get enough!!

My course was very faculatitive to a job on nursing. It bridged the gap between theory and practise. I enjoyed the interenational placement the best. If you love nursing, you will love this course.

Course content****
The course is very interesting if you are interested in making programs and systems and improving them. The pace of the course depends on how hard you work as if you do ot work at it then it wil seem like it is going very fastbut really it is just that you have not been making any effort. The hardness of the course also dependson how much effort you put in and this course takes up a lot of time. You can start as a complete beginner as they are very good at explaining everything as if everyone is a beginner and on the same level. I feel that I am getting what Iwant from the course.
Student facilities*****
The classroom is very modern and up-to-date. There are brilliant IT resources, which have 24 facilities.
Social life***
Parts of the course I look forward to going to and others I do not. Part of it does seem like a chore but the better parts do make up for it. It takes awhile to mix in with everybody but once you get setteled in you get on really well with everybody and there is a load of help available from other students if you are stuck.

Course content*
Training and teaching, particularly the tutorials and assignment work was very ill prepared. The examples used appear to have been lifted, almost verbatim from the Deitel & Deitel hand books for their .Net and Java "Teach Yourself" series
Student facilities***
There are a good number of computer labs open during the week, although due to theft from the premises they are not open on the weekend. Their library is well stocked, but terminals are in rather short supply and usually occupied unless you're quick to grab a place.
Social life****
UUJ really is about athmosphere. While the teachers are generally rather dour and unhelpful (at least in informatics) the student body make up for this with lots of fun & games on campus.

if you are willing to chase up lecturers all day, only a little support (mainly from one technician, how imho basically runs the media course) then come on a head. the course itself is really interesting, the uni just doesnt seem to be able to afford working computers never mind top of the range.

Halls is brand new. Only a few years old. Only draw back is that it costs way more than living in student rentals in Portstewart or Portrush. I've lived in Portstewart for years now and I absolutely love it. I'm gonna be so sad to leave :(

There are quite a few computer labs that fill up around the time that coursework is due in but its usually quite easy to find a computer when you really need one. We are also getting a brand new library/resource centre in Sept 2007. Can't wait to see what its like.
Course and Lecturers

I have found most of my lecturers to be very easy to get on with. If there is something in a lecture that you haven't understood they will always take the time to speak to you and help you out.

Coming from Belfast I find it a little quiet here but the shopping in Coleraine isn't that bad. If you're looking for a big night out you could hit Kellys in Portrush and there are a few great pubs in Portstewart. Coleraine is also about an hours drive from either Belfast or Derry so you're never far away from the big smoke.
Job Prospects

Everyone I know who has graduated from Coleraine has been snapped up as soon as or sometimes before graduation! I'm just about to finish placement and I've already been offered a PhD in another uni and in this one. It's gonna be difficult to chose :s
