  • ... Saint Martin's, that's where I, caught his eye
Central Saint Martins College Of Art And Design

I L.U.R.V.E photography. Bruce weber rocks! My all time fab video = pet shop boy's "being boring", beautifully shot by weber! I used to love my Polaroid 1200si. Then for last Christmas I bought a mega groovy digital camera: a mega sexy... Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W7 to replace my old pentax slr. but oops, my Sony Cyber-shot is a tad bit complicated and I couldn't suss out the manual overdrive. So I enrolled on a digital photography evening classes @ st martins school of art, london! I hasten to add, st martins runs two related digital photography evening classes: the first session covers shooting photographs using your camera while the second session covers manipulating digital photographs in Photoshop. So please ensure you enrol for the right session! Walking into the building you can't help have a sense of awe... st martins has produced the coolest art talent ever. The tutors @ st martins were inspirational, enthusiastic and v fun. My class mates were a stimulating mixture of cool cats who wanted to use their camera for work and those who just wanted to produce groovy digital images for fun. It was a v fab evening class to take but my only downer was a slight feeling of hi-tech inferiority lol! My class mates all had the hugest-ever, mega expensive digital SLR cameras which dwarfed my almost trailer-trash compact camera. For digital photography evening classes in London.. st martins rocks! Thanks tutors... you were sweeties!

  • Excellent course and tutor!
    South Trafford College
    Lorraine, December 2006
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
I did this course before I moved to London, and really wish I could have done my A2 at the same college. The enrolment process was quick and easy, the facilities are really good (the art building is new), and the teaching staff are excellent. I couldn't have achieved my grade A without the help and advice of my tutor, AJ Wilkinson, and would recommend this course to anyone with an interest in photography. Excellent value for money!

  • Really worthwhile
    Digital Photography Level 1
    Zoom In Photography Ltd
    Sonia, April 2007
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
Definitely money well spent. This is a great course for learning about the basics of digital photography from what all the buttons on the camera do all the way through to dealing with images once they're on the computer. It has certainly made me venture past the automatic setting on my camera and I'm hoping to do the more advanced courses in time.
    Student facilities ****
The room is a bit basic and in Clapham Leisure Centre but is more than adequate.
    Social life ****
The classes are small (in my class there were 8 of us) so everyone has the opportunity to ask questions and the answers are invariably interesting for everyone.
  • Have you ever said I wish I could take good photos
    Photography Level 3 BTEC Award
Scola - Sutton College Of Learning For Adults
    Anon, June 2007
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
The courses are run at Level 2 and Level 3 and there is a lot enthusiasm in the classes. They are inspiring and you learn loads of new things. You are never discouraged. If you have said or even thought that many times which I am sure that a lot of you have. Why not just simply go out and do a course. Have a look under hotcourses and see if there is one near to where you live. What you will get is good tuition and to see your own photographs develop in a tray of developing chemicals is quite exciting and that is just the tip of the iceberg. There is so much to learn about photography and then there is now the digital side of photography as well. When you have actually manipulated some of your own photographs and made them look even better. One thing I would say is that you will not regret doing it.
    Student facilities *****
The studio and darkroom are very good and modern with loads of equipment. There is a well stocked students lounge with we meet up in the breaks from class in a modern building.
    Social life *****
I always look forward to going to class and learn new skills. Friendly fellow students and the atmosphere is very good.

    44 Portland Place
    Sara , June 2007

Complete beginners are made to feel welcome and are catered for. Jet (the teacher) is really down to earth, approachable and keen to part with the knowledge she has which is vast. A worthwhile course if you want to learn more about how to handle your camera be it an SLR or a point and shoot.
    Student facilities *****
Very good location for such a course being a 5 minute walk from Regent's Park and other interesting places around West London. the classroom itself is sufficient, in fact it has lots of character and offers many photos itself. Good for when praticing lighting, exposure etc...
    Social life *****
The students were all keen to learn and we all got on really well. The fact that we were photographing each other regularly brought us closer in a way. Everyone was helpful to each other and the general atmosphere was relaxed and informal.

  • Two day weekend intensive course!
    Crouch End College
    Anne, June 2007
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
You spend the whole weekend with Heidi, who has a lot of experience in photography and design and the combination of her professionalism and enthusiasm is great. The day out in the field is nice to actually spend time just thinking of taking photos and nothing else. The next day I learned how to work in Photoshop with some of the photos we had taken the previous day and she showed me some of her work and got me to recreate something similar. It is very personal to spend a whole two days with someone, but it was great to be able to ask anything you wanted without feeling embarrassed! You can be a complete beginner or more experienced, Heidi will design the days around what your interests and capabilities are.

I actually spent the second day in their flat! We both had a mac to work on though, which was great.
